We are writing to inform you of a recent change in ordinance regulating the operation and permitting requirements for subsurface sewage treatment systems within Aitkin County. Please note that this change does not affect your septic construction permit or the ability to proceed with the project. Please be aware that good water use management, periodic septic system maintenance, and inspection for failure are still the responsibility of the landowner and that this system is not classified as a standard Subsurface Sewage Treatment System. Your diligence will help ensure the longevity and function of the septic system. Aitkin County encourages you to establish a monitoring and maintenance schedule with a qualified professional.
